The Vintage Bronze Virgin in the Rose Grotto Rosary Center is built as a little grotto. Two rose stems rise from a rocky base and arch together overhead, each carrying a large open rose at the upper corner, and the opening between them is pierced clean through the metal so the Virgin inside stands in real open space rather than against a flat ground. She is veiled and haloed, her hands joined, on a ledge of rock.
Rock and roses are the standard language of the Marian grotto shrines, and the design lets the piece work as a shrine you can carry with you. It is an especially fitting center for a rosary, since the Rosary is itself a garland of roses offered to her, each Hail Mary one flower in the crown. At seven-eighths of an inch it is neatly scaled and finely pierced throughout.
