Vintage Bronze Two-Sided Vine Crucifix

There is barely a straight line in the Vintage Bronze Two-Sided Vine Crucifix. The cross is formed entirely of interlaced vines, looped ovals at the head and foot, split leaf-shaped arms, a knot of stems drawn behind the figure, so that the corpus seems held in a living framework rather than nailed to a beam.
The reverse is worked just as fully and is worth turning over. The same interlace repeats, but where the corpus sits on the front there is a four-petalled flower at the crossing, with a small bud opening on the lower shaft. Read together the two faces make the old point plainly: the wood of the cross becomes the tree of life, and what was an instrument of death puts out flowers. It is a crucifix that rewards being handled and looked at closely.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
