Vintage Bronze Tailored Crucifix with Greek Key Ends

A crucifix with the ornament pared back. The arms end in squared, stepped terminals filled with a small Greek key fret, and the shaft behind the corpus is finely striated so the figure stands out against a ruled ground. The effect is architectural rather than florid, and at an inch and a quarter it wears easily under a collar.
The plaque above the head is lettered INRI, short for the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Those were the words Pilate had fixed to the cross, written out in Hebrew, Greek and Latin so that everyone passing could read them, and meant as mockery. The Church has cast them above the corpus ever since as a plain statement of fact. On a crucifix this restrained they carry more weight than any amount of ornament would.
The tailored crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
