The Vintage Bronze St. Philomena Medal keeps the imagery that carried her devotion outward from Italy. One face shows her lying at rest inside a glazed shrine with light falling across her from the upper right, ringed by the words SANCTA PHILOMENA and ORA PRO NOBIS, Saint Philomena, pray for us.
The other face is given entirely to the emblems of her burial: two crossed arrows, an anchor and a palm gathered in a laurel wreath beneath a Chi-Rho monogram, the signs traditionally read as the marks of her martyrdom. Around them runs CORPVS MVGNANI QVIESCIT, the body rests at Mugnano, naming the town south of Naples where her relics were enshrined in 1805 and where her shrine still draws pilgrims. Philomena has been turned to for two centuries by those praying for children and for the poor, and by anyone who has run out of other places to ask.
