There is nothing decorative about it, which suits the saint it names.
Monica prayed for her son Augustine through long years of his going his own way, and she is honored as the patroness of mothers, of wives, and of patience that outlasts everything. The Latin at the rim reads simply Saint Monica. The reverse answers the worked face with a single slender spray of lily in low relief, the flower of purity and of prayer that refuses to give up.
