The Vintage Bronze St. Monica Medal carries a full scene on each face. On the front a haloed woman kneels at a prie-dieu set with an open book and a standing cross, her head bowed, while behind her a seated man leans his head on his hand over a desk. Along the lower edge runs S.ta MONICA ORA PRO NOBIS, Saint Monica, pray for us.
That is her whole story in one frame: the mother at prayer, and the son who has not yet turned. Monica prayed for Augustine for years before he did, which is why she is the patron of mothers and of anyone waiting on a child. The reverse shows a bearded, haloed shepherd standing among his sheep with a crook in his hand, above a shield lettered IHS and the words Asociacion de Madres Catolicas, the association of Catholic mothers for whom the antique original was made.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
