On the front of the Vintage Bronze St. Louis, King of France Medal a crowned king stands in a heavy mantle, an upright sceptre in one hand and the Crown of Thorns held out in the other, with S. LOVIS ROI DE FRANCE lettered around the rim — Saint Louis, King of France, the U spelled as a V in the older manner. The reverse is filled by a single spreading tree.
Louis IX brought the Crown of Thorns to Paris and built the Sainte-Chapelle to house it, and that is the relic he carries here. The tree belongs to the other story always told of him: that he sat beneath an oak at Vincennes to hear the petitions of ordinary people and gave judgment himself, without ceremony or intermediary. He is the patron of France, of rulers, and of anyone whose work is to be fair.
The St. Louis medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
