The Vintage Bronze St. Benedict Crucifix with Jubilee Medal is a large piece, nearly three inches, and it gives its arms away to open air: each arm is pierced through so the cross reads as an openwork frame. The corpus hangs at the centre beneath an INRI plaque, with the Saint Benedict medal set as a roundel behind him at the crossing.
The reverse carries the same roundel on a plain shaft, Benedict standing with a cross in one hand and his rule in the other, ringed by the traditional prayer of his medal — eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur, that we may be fortified by his presence at our death — together with the date 1880, which belongs to the Benedictine jubilee medal of that year. That date and that legend come from the antique original this piece was cast from, and they place it in the great nineteenth-century revival of the Benedict devotion.
