Both faces are ringed by a wide pierced border of scrolls, the lace edge that gives this medal its name and catches the light all the way around.
The reverse is lettered ST· ANTHONY PRAY FOR US in raised capitals. Anthony of Padua was a Franciscan preacher of such power that crowds followed him into the fields to hear him, and the Child in his arms comes from the night a host saw the Infant Jesus resting on his open book.
