The Vintage Bronze St. Alena and Guardian Angel Medal pairs a named martyr with the most familiar of household devotions. One face shows a woman standing veiled and haloed beneath a flowering branch, a tall staff in one hand and a martyr's palm crossed at her breast, with SANCTA ALENA ORA PRO NOBIS running around the rim.
The Latin asks simply that Saint Alena pray for us. She is venerated as an early martyr of Brabant, in what is now Belgium, and honoured near Brussels ever since; medals of her were made for local pilgrims rather than for wide circulation, which makes the original an unusual survival. The other face shows a guardian angel, wings filling the field, bending protectively over a child among clouds and stars, the first devotion most Catholic children are taught.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
