Vintage Bronze San Damiano Crucifix with Peace Prayer

The Vintage Bronze San Damiano Crucifix follows the painted Romanesque cross before which Saint Francis heard the words to rebuild the Church. Christ stands upright with his eyes open and his arms straight out, more risen than dying, and the small attendant figures of the Gospel stand in the panels beneath each arm. Beaded borders run around every field, giving the whole a woven, almost embroidered look.
The reverse is filled edge to edge with the Peace Prayer of Saint Francis, thirteen lines of it cast small and close: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, where there is hatred let me sow love, where there is injury, pardon, where there is doubt, faith. Putting that prayer on the back of the cross that began his conversion sets the start and the fruit of one life on a single object, one face to look at and one to read.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
