The Vintage Bronze Sainte Genevieve Medal shows her veiled, her head ringed with a rayed nimbus and her hands lifted open at her breast, with SAINTE GENEVIEVE curving around her. The modelling is soft and unfussy, the sort of quiet portrait made for a medal meant to be worn under clothing rather than admired.
The reverse carries no lettering at all. A single sheep grazes on a bank beside a planted shepherd's crook, with a leafy branch and three open roses rising behind it. The pastoral scene belongs to her girlhood as a shepherdess at Nanterre, before the years in which she became the protectress of Paris, turning back famine and flood and, by her prayers, the army that threatened the city. She has been its patron for fifteen centuries.
