The Sacred Heart and Haloed Madonna Rosary Center is worked on both faces. One side sets the Sacred Heart of Jesus half-length inside an oval of fine rays, the whole ringed by a raised border of laurel and small scrolls. The other turns to Our Lady, a veiled figure with hands joined, her head circled by a large radiant halo and standing out from a ground left deliberately rough.
A center is the piece a rosary is built around, sitting where the five decades meet the pendant, and it is the part the fingers return to on every circuit of the beads. Having Son and Mother on either face suits that place in the prayer exactly, since the rosary is Mary's own prayer about her Son, and the two devotions here are finally the same devotion seen from two sides. This one is cast heavily enough to take years of handling.
