The Vintage Bronze Rayed Balkan Crucifix catches fire along every arm. Each arm breaks into a burst of flame-like rays, and at the center Christ stands with a rounded head, arms straight out and a tapering body that merges into the shaft below. There is no lettering and no titulus, only the figure and the light around it.
The antique original is a fourth-century piece from the Balkans, and the reduced, almost abstract handling of the body belongs to that earliest Christian work, when the crucified Christ was shown as a standing figure of triumph rather than a study in suffering. He is not slumped or bleeding here. He is upright in the middle of the blaze, with the cross itself turned into radiance. It is a very old way of praying the Passion, holding the death and the rising in one image, the light already breaking out of the wood.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
