The Vintage Bronze Profile of Christ Rosary Center shows Christ facing left, long-haired and bearded, the drapery of his shoulders drawn in fine incised lines and a small radiant heart set at the breast. The handling is etched and linear rather than modelled, which gives the piece an almost drawn quality, closer to an engraving than to the relief of most centers.
The profile of Christ is one of the oldest devotional images in the Western Church, descended from the portraits said to have been taken from life and copied ever since as the true likeness. Placing it where the decades meet means the face is what the fingers find at the end of every ten beads. The radiant heart at the breast ties the image to the Sacred Heart, so what looks at first like a portrait turns out to be a devotion as well.
