The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of Luján Congress Medal was made for one particular occasion. On the front Christ stands with the wounded heart on his breast and a hand raised in blessing, a chalice and host set before him, the rim lettered XXXII CONGRESO EUCARISTICO INTERNAC. B. AIRES with the date 1934 below his feet, for the thirty-second International Eucharistic Congress. The reverse carries N. SEÑORA DE LUJAN, Our Lady of Luján in her stiff triangular robe, ringed with rays and standing above cloud.
That congress filled Buenos Aires in October 1934 with open-air Masses and processions that drew crowds in the hundreds of thousands, and Luján is the national patroness of Argentina, so the two faces together hold the whole event: the Eucharist at its center and the country's own Virgin standing behind it. The date belongs to the antique original rather than to this casting.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
