The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of La Salette Rosary Center is built as a pointed oval window in a pierced frame, with fleur-de-lis springing from each corner and fine beading around the opening. Inside stands a woman in a long gown and a tall headdress, two small children close beside her on a hillside, all three cast in high relief so the little scene reads clearly through the frame.
This is La Salette, the apparition of September 1846 in the French Alps, when Our Lady appeared weeping to two shepherd children, Melanie and Maximin, spoke with them at length and then rose into the light. The devotion that grew from it is one of penance and of consolation, and it sits naturally at the center of a rosary, where the sorrowful mysteries are counted out. Nothing on the piece is lettered, so the scene tells it alone.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
