The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of Guadalupe Cross gives its lower shaft to the Virgin herself. She stands with her hands joined inside a mandorla of fine rays, in the pose taken from the image on Juan Diego's tilma. Above her a panel of dense openwork scrollwork fills the crossing, rayed sunburst stars are stamped into each arm and the foot, and a foliate finial crowns the head.
The reverse is left plain apart from one thing: a large rose cast in high relief across the crossing. The roses Juan Diego gathered on Tepeyac in December and carried down in his cloak are the sign by which the apparition was believed, so the flower on the back is not decoration but the other half of the story. At three inches this is a substantial cross, and it wears the devotion of Mexico plainly.
This cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
