Product Details

The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of Banneux Medal is a small eight-sided piece with the Virgin standing on the front, her hands joined and her head slightly bowed, a young pine at her feet. The rim is lettered BANNEUX at the left and NOTRE DAME at the right. The reverse is a plain eight-sided panel with rays cut in from the corners toward a slender crucifix at the center.

The French reads simply Banneux, Our Lady. Banneux is the Belgian hamlet where, in the winter of 1933, a girl named Mariette Beco saw the Virgin eight times in the pine wood behind her house. She called herself the Virgin of the Poor, led Mariette to a small spring and said it was reserved for all nations and for the sick, and asked only that people believe in her. The pine at the Virgin's feet on this medal belongs to that story, and the devotion has stayed close to what it began as, a refuge for the poor and the ill.

The Our Lady of Banneux medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
