The Vintage Bronze Ornate St. Francis Cross is large and deeply worked. A haloed friar in a hooded habit stands at the crossing with his hands together, surrounded by flowers, vines and pierced tracery that run out to the tips of every arm, the created world Francis called brother and sister growing up around him.
The reverse is given to a prayer cut in Gothic blackletter: Benedicat tibi Dominus et custodiat te, ostendat faciem suam tibi et misereatur tui, convertat vultum suum ad te et det tibi pacem — may the Lord bless you and keep you, may he show you his face and have mercy on you, may he turn his countenance to you and give you peace. This is the blessing Francis wrote out for Brother Leo on Mount La Verna, and the Tau set below the text is the letter he used to sign his name.
