The Vintage Bronze Notre Dame de la Premiere Communion Medal is a French keepsake made for the day of a first Communion. A chalice and host stand at the center of the front among lily blossoms and oak leaves, with the legend carried unbroken around the rim: NOTRE DAME DE LA 1re COMMUNION above and PRIEZ POUR NOUS within. The reverse turns to the altar itself, a monstrance raised at the center, two angels kneeling in adoration to either side, sheaves of wheat and clusters of grapes gathered along the lower edge.
The French reads Our Lady of the First Communion, pray for us, and it places Mary beside the child at the rail as the first and closest witness of the sacrament. The wheat and the grapes are the bread and the wine shown in their raw state, before the altar makes them something more; the kneeling angels are the traditional adorers of the Eucharist. Lilies for purity and oak for endurance complete a design made to be given once and kept for a lifetime.
