Product Details
The Vintage Bronze Mother Seton Medal carries a portrait rather than a symbol. Elizabeth Ann Seton is shown half-length in profile, in the widow's cap tied under the chin and the wide collar and pleated cape of the community she founded, her hands folded quietly before her while long rays break behind. The modelling is soft and unstylised, and the sculptor's cursive signature is cast into the field at the lower left.
The reverse is lettered MOTHER SETON, SERVANT OF GOD beneath a plain cross, inside a wreath of thorn-set branches. That title is worth noticing. Servant of God is the first step on the road to canonisation, so the antique original was made while her cause was still young, before she was beatified in 1963 and canonised in 1975 as the first American-born saint.
The Mother Seton medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
- Made in the USA
- Artisan-cast from an antique original
- Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
- Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
- Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
- Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
Vintage Catholic medals, restored for today.
Many of these designs come from beloved old religious medals that were once treasured by the faithful, but have become rare, forgotten, or difficult to find over time.
Each medal is carefully reproduced from an antique original, preserving the devotional artwork, fine relief, texture, and old-world character of the original piece.
Traditional lost-wax casting is a time-honored process in which a wax model is formed from the original design, surrounded by a casting material, and then melted away to create a detailed mold for the metal.
The result is a newly made medal with the look and soul of a Catholic heirloom โ a small piece of sacred history, restored for prayer, devotion, and everyday wear.
๐ฅ Bronze is a durable metal alloy traditionally made primarily of copper, usually with tin and sometimes small amounts of other metals. Bronze has been used for centuries in statues, medals, bells, and devotional objects because it is strong, attractive, and develops a classic warm brown tone over time. Bronze medals may naturally darken or develop a patina with age, which many people find adds to their beauty and character.
๐ Yellow Bronze is a bronze-family alloy with a warmer, brighter golden tone than standard bronze. It is not solid gold and should not be confused with gold-filled or gold-plated jewelry, but it offers an attractive gold-like appearance at a more affordable price. Yellow bronze is often chosen for religious medals because it combines durability with a rich, traditional look.
๐ค White Bronze is a bronze-family alloy made to have a pale silver or white-metal appearance. It is not sterling silver, but it gives medals a clean, bright finish similar in appearance to silver-toned metals. White bronze is a good option for those who want a durable religious medal with a lighter, silvery look without choosing sterling silver.
๐ Sterling Silverย is an alloy of silver containing 92.5 by weight of silver and 7.5 by weight of other metals, usually copper.ย Fine silver, for example 99.9% pure silver, is generally too soft for producing functional objects; therefore, our silver jewelry is made of Sterling Silver.
