Vintage Bronze Miraculous Medal, Portuguese Inscription

The Vintage Bronze Miraculous Medal was made for Portuguese-speaking devotion. Our Lady stands on the globe with the serpent crushed beneath her feet, her hands lowered and open, rays falling from her fingers toward the world. The reverse carries the classic emblem: the letter M surmounted by a cross, the Sacred Heart crowned with thorns and the Immaculate Heart pierced by a sword below, and twelve stars around the rim.
Around her runs the invocation Our Lady gave St. Catherine Labouré in the Rue du Bac in 1830, here in Portuguese rather than the more familiar French: Ó MARIA CONCEBIDA SEM PECCADO, ROGAE POR NÓS QUE RECORREMOS A VÓS, O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. The older spelling of PECCADO belongs to the antique original, and points to a nineteenth or early twentieth century striking.
