The Vintage Bronze Madonna and Roses Rosary Center is worked on both faces. The front sets a veiled woman inside a wide burst of rays, her hands drawn in to her breast, standing above a bank of massed roses that fills the lower third of the field. The reverse is quieter: the same figure in profile, veiled, her eyes lowered, framed in a plain oval with a single flower at the foot.
Roses have belonged to Marian devotion for as long as there has been Marian devotion. The rosary itself takes its name from them, a garland of roses offered a decade at a time, and a center like this one sits at the join of the chaplet where the fingers come to rest between decades. That makes the choice of imagery a practical piety as much as a decorative one. No lettering was cast into either face.
