The Vintage Bronze Madonna and Child Shield Rosary Center carries a scene rather than a portrait. A crowned and veiled Virgin stands inside a wide fan of rays with the Child held on one arm and a length of cloth held out in her free hand, small figures crowding at her feet and a building rising at the left edge. The reverse is simpler: a haloed, bearded bust of Christ with both hands raised and a heart at the breast, the Sacred Heart.
A crowned Mary holding out a cloth to the faithful below is the language of the scapular, the promise of protection put into the hands of those who ask for it. Paired with the Sacred Heart on the reverse, the two faces set her intercession and his love back to back, which is the logic of the whole rosary in miniature. There is no lettering on either side.
