The Vintage Bronze Lourdes Crucifix is large and generously detailed. The corpus hangs at the centre with a rayed rosette behind the head, and each of the four terminals opens into a quatrefoil medallion carrying its own small scene: above, a figure with hands joined in prayer; at one arm, a grotto with a girl kneeling before a figure standing in the rock; at the other, a veiled bust; and at the foot, a domed and spired church standing on a rise.
Taken together those scenes are Lourdes: St. Bernadette at the grotto of Massabielle in 1858, where Our Lady named herself the Immaculate Conception, and the basilica raised above it afterward. Millions have gone to that spring since, for healing or simply to ask. A crucifix that gathers the apparition around the figure of Christ keeps the whole of that story in one hand.
The Lourdes crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
