On the Vintage Bronze Latin American Mother and Child Center the Virgin stands crowned in the wide bell-shaped mantle of a dressed shrine statue, banded with ornament along the hem, holding a smaller crowned child close against her side. The border is pierced all round with a ring of small openings, and the ground beside the figures is cut away so that mother and Son stand almost free of it.
This vested and crowned form belongs to the Latin American workshops, where the great pilgrimage Virgins are robed and crowned for their feasts and their images copied down into small metal for the household. The modelling is frank and folk-like rather than academic, which is much of its appeal: it is the work of makers who knew the statue as it stands in the church and rendered it as they saw it. No lettering appears anywhere on the piece.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
