The Vintage Bronze Guardian Angel and Good Shepherd Medal carries a full scene on each of its two faces. On the front, a young shepherd with a halo and a broad-brimmed hat stands in a meadow of tall lilies, a lamb gathered up in one arm and a staff topped with a small cross in the other. The lamb and the staff are the oldest signs of Christ the Good Shepherd, who goes out after the one sheep that wandered off and carries it home on his shoulders.
Turn the medal over and the guardian angel stands behind a small child, one hand raised and the other resting on the child's shoulder. It is the image behind the prayer most Catholics learn first, and the two sides answer one another: the Shepherd who seeks out the lost, and the angel given to walk beside the young. The French original was signed by its medalist at the lower right of the front.
