The front of the Vintage Bronze Flower and St. Anthony Medal is a single deep blossom, its broad petals folded around a knotted center with one leaf turned under, modelled so fully that the flower forms the whole outline of the piece. The reverse is flat and quiet by comparison: a haloed figure in a friar's habit holding a small child against his shoulder, Saint Anthony of Padua and the Christ Child.
Anthony was the Franciscan preacher whose sermons emptied the towns of northern Italy into the fields to hear him, and the child in his arms comes from the night a host looked in and saw the Christ Child standing on his open book. He is invoked for what has been lost, keys and patience and faith and people, and his medals were among the most commonly carried in Catholic Europe. At three quarters of an inch this one is easy to keep close.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
