Vintage Bronze Floriated Crucifix with Scrolled Arms

The Vintage Bronze Floriated Crucifix is substantial at over two inches and made to be felt as well as seen. The four arms widen and close in broad trefoil points, each filled with a symmetrical scrolled leaf worked against a stippled ground, so the ornament sits in shadow while the corpus stands out bright above it. The figure is deeply modelled, the head inclined to the right shoulder.
Above the head is the small INRI plaque, Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate ordered nailed to the cross and then refused to change. The reverse is left plain and smooth, and deliberately so: a crucifix of this weight is one to hold in the hand while you pray, and a smooth back is kinder to the fingers. The antiquing keeps the softness of a well-used piece.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
