The Vintage Bronze Filigree Madonna Center with Fleur-de-Lis is cut through with openwork. At the middle stands a veiled Madonna, her hands joined at her breast and her mantle falling in long folds, and around her the metal opens into scrolls, small rosettes and fleur-de-lis, the whole edged in fine beading. Light passes straight through the openings, so the figure reads clearly even at an inch across.
The lily is Our Lady's flower, the emblem of the purity Gabriel found in her, and a center built of lilies and scrollwork around a praying Virgin was the old French and Italian rosary maker's answer to a plain problem: how to keep the joining piece of a rosary from being merely functional. Here Mary is shown doing what she is asked to do, praying, alongside whoever is telling the beads.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
