The Vintage Bronze Etched Celtic Ring Cross is a ringed cross of the Irish kind, where an open circle passes through the crossing and holds the four arms together. Each arm ends in a small trefoil, and the whole surface is treated by etching rather than relief: fine interlace runs the length of the shaft, small stars are pricked into the arms, and the ground between is stippled so the pattern lifts away from it.
Ring crosses carry the oldest Irish high crosses down into wearable size, the circle read variously as eternity, as the sun of the older religion baptized into the new, and simply as the stone mason's way of bracing four long arms. The etched treatment gives this one a flatter, more graphic look than a modelled cross has, and at two inches the interlace stays fully legible.
