The Vintage Bronze Dominic Savio and St. John Bosco Medal pairs a schoolboy with his teacher. On the front is Dominic Savio, cast as a boy in a jacket and knotted tie with a rayed halo behind his head; on the reverse is John Bosco, the priest who taught him, in cassock and Roman collar. Both sit within a ring of beads.
The front reads BEATO DOMENICO SAVIO, the reverse S. JOANNES BOSCO. Savio died at fourteen, having set himself to become a saint by doing ordinary things cheerfully and well, and Don Bosco wrote his life; between them they are the patrons invoked for children, for students and for young people in trouble. That word Beato dates the antique original neatly, since Savio was beatified in 1950 and canonized in 1954.
