The Vintage Bronze Descending Dove of the Holy Spirit Center catches the bird in the act of descending. Its wings sweep down and outward, the tail trails below, and a burst of pointed rays rises behind the head, so the whole piece reads as motion downward toward the one who holds it. The plumage is cut in long incised strokes, with a raised boss marking the breast and each wing.
This is the oldest image the Church has for the Holy Spirit, taken from the account of the Lord's baptism in the Jordan, where the Spirit came down upon him in the form of a dove. Set where the decades of a rosary meet, it stands at the point where the mysteries turn, a reminder of the Spirit who is asked at the start of every prayer to come. It makes a natural choice for a Confirmation.
