The Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Star and Halo works with two circles of light. A raised ring stands behind the crossing like a halo laid over the whole cross, and within it a pointed star bursts directly behind Christ's head, so the brightest point of the design falls exactly where the eye goes first. The three outer arms open into pierced trefoils filled with small flowers.
Above the corpus the titulus is cast plainly with INRI, for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Pilate meant the words as mockery and had them written in three languages; the Church kept them as a statement of fact, and every crucifix that carries them repeats the claim. The star and the ring behind the figure answer that inscription with light.
