The Vintage Bronze Crowned Madonna Rosary Center with Stars shows the Virgin crowned in a stiff bell-shaped robe, a small crowned Child held at her shoulder, the mantle covered in scrolling ornament that spreads to the edge of the panel. The field around her is powdered with fleurs-de-lis, and the scalloped border alternates more lilies with five-pointed stars.
The form is that of a dressed shrine statue, a carved Madonna clothed in a real robe and crowned, of the kind kept and carried in procession in French pilgrimage churches. The fleur-de-lis is the lily of France and of Mary's purity, and the stars belong to the woman clothed with the sun in the Apocalypse. Crowning her is the Church's plain way of saying that the mother of the King is herself a queen.
