On the Vintage Bronze Child Jesus with the Eucharist Medal the Child stands haloed and robed to the feet, the arm of a cross rising behind him. He lifts a chalice in one hand and holds a host in a burst of rays in the other, so that both signs of the Eucharist are gathered into a single small figure.
It is a First Communion image, and a beautiful piece of theology in miniature: the Child offering, already, what he will one day give at the altar and on the cross. Medals like this were pressed into a child's hand on the morning of a first Communion and kept for the rest of a life. The reverse of the antique original carries the proof of that, a monogram of interlaced initials engraved by hand inside the outline of a lily, with a date beneath it. Those marks are carried faithfully into the casting, the trace of whoever first received it.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
