A chalice stands at the middle of a long shield with a radiant Host raised above its cup, ears of wheat climb the upper edges, and a vine heavy with grapes gathers in the point below: bread and wine, grain and fruit, set out around the vessel in which they are offered.
The Host carries the monogram IHS, the ancient abbreviation of the Holy Name of Jesus taken from the first letters of the Greek IHSOUS. The stylised, flattened forms of the wheat and vine place the antique original in the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco years, when religious metalwork took up that vocabulary with real conviction, and the long tapering shield is very much of that moment. It is a center with a designer's hand on it as well as a devotional one.
This rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
