The Vintage Bronze Baroque Crucifix with Marian Medallions works as several pieces at once. The shaft and arms are bordered with fine beading, each of the three-lobed ends holds its own small scene set into a niche, and the corpus hangs at the crossing beneath a lettered plaque.
The scenes gather three great Marian titles: Our Lady of the Valley of Lujan, patroness of Argentina; Our Lady of Pompei, to whom the Supplication is prayed each May and October; and Stella Maris, the Star of the Sea, the title sailors have called on for centuries. Crucifixes of this kind were assembled for pilgrims and travellers, so that several shrines could be carried at once on a single cross. The plaque above the corpus is lettered IHS, the monogram of the Holy Name of Jesus.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
