The Vintage Bronze Art Deco Madonna Rosary Center sets a rectangular panel with clipped corners inside a stepped frame, capped by a small angular pediment that gives the piece the look of a doorway. Within it a veiled Madonna is shown in profile facing left, her head bowed, the veil falling in broad smooth folds against a darkened ground. There is no ornament beyond the frame itself, and the restraint is what makes the profile carry.
Devotional metalwork of the nineteen twenties and thirties took to this manner readily: flat planes, clipped corners, a figure reduced to a few long lines. The Madonna is neither crowned nor attended, simply veiled and at prayer, as she was most often shown on centers meant for daily use. The little pediment above her turns the frame into a door, which is one of her oldest titles, the gate through which the Lord came in.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
