The Vintage Bronze Ars Cross with Fleurs-de-Lis is a pilgrim's cross, plain and confident. A small fleur-de-lis opens at each of the four terminals, and the word ARS stands down the upper shaft, one letter above another.
Ars-sur-Formans was the small French parish given to St. John Vianney in 1818. He spent more than forty years there, hearing confessions for hours each day until pilgrims came from across Europe to kneel before him, and pilgrims still go. The lilies are the flower of France; the lettering names the village. Crosses like this were the ordinary keepsake carried home from that journey, and the Curé of Ars remains the patron of parish priests, invoked by anyone praying for a priest or asking for the grace of a good confession.
