The Vintage Bronze Adoration Reparatrice Holy Face Cross carries its whole devotion on two faces. At the crossing, a veil is held open by two hands to show the face of Christ crowned with thorns; a radiant triangle sits on the upper arm, a burst of rays on each side arm, and on the lower arm a chalice stands beneath a radiant host.
The reverse is given to lettering: ADORATION REPARATRICE across the arms and DES NATIONS CATHOLIQUES REPRESENTEES A ROME down the upright, the reparatory adoration of the Catholic nations represented at Rome. The piece belongs to the French movement of perpetual adoration made in reparation for offenses against the Blessed Sacrament, and the front reads as a small catechism of that work: the Trinity above, the Holy Face at the center, the Eucharist below.
