St. Willibrord
Anglo-Saxon "Apostle of the Frisians" (c. 658-739), Northumbrian Benedictine of Ripon, trained in Ireland; sent in 690 with eleven companions to evangelize Frisia, consecrated by Pope Sergius I as first Archbishop of the Frisians, with see at Utrecht. Founded Echternach abbey in Luxembourg. Patron of Luxembourg; pre-Congregation.
