St. Ubald of Gubbio
Italian bishop (c. 1084/85-1160), Augustinian Canon Regular, Bishop of Gubbio from 1129; saved his city from Frederick Barbarossa's army in 1155 by interceding personally with the emperor. Patron of Gubbio, where the famous Ceri festival on his feast day eve features the great wax pillars carried in his honor. Canonized 1192 by Celestine III.
