St. Theodore of Amasea
Roman soldier and martyr (d. c. 306), young recruit ("Tiro") of the Cohors Marmaritarum stationed at Amasea in Pontus; refused to sacrifice, set fire to the temple of Cybele in protest, and was burned alive. Patron of recruits; cult ancient and widespread, often paired with St. Theodore the General. Pre-Congregation.
