St. Rose Philippine Duchesne
French Religious of the Sacred Heart (1769-1852), Visitandine novice during the Revolution who joined St. Madeleine Sophie Barat's young Society in 1804; sent at age 49 to America in 1818, founded a chain of schools on the Mississippi frontier and finally a Potawatomi mission in Kansas, where the children called her "Woman who prays always." Canonized 1988 by John Paul II.
