St. Porphyrius of Gaza
Greek bishop (c. 347-420), of Thessalonica; monk in Egypt and Palestine, then Bishop of Gaza from 395, where he labored to convert a stubbornly pagan population, eventually obtaining an imperial decree to demolish the Marneion temple of Marnas (402) and build the Eudoxian basilica on the site. Pre-Congregation.
