St. Peter Wu Guosheng
Chinese layman and martyr (1768-1814), Sichuan tobacco-shop owner converted by reading Catholic books; itinerant catechist arrested under the persecution of the Jiaqing emperor and strangled at Guiyang, the first lay native Chinese saint. Canonized 2000 by John Paul II among the 120 Martyrs of China.
