St. Peter To Rot
Papua New Guinean catechist and martyr (1912-1945), Tolai layman of Rakunai on New Britain; took on full pastoral leadership of his community after the Japanese occupation interned the missionary priests, including secret marriages and instruction. Killed by lethal injection in a Japanese camp for opposing forced polygamy. Beatified 1995 by John Paul II; canonization announced 2025.
