St. Paulinus of York
Italian-born missionary bishop (d. 644), Roman monk sent by Pope St. Gregory the Great in 601 with the second wave of the English mission; consecrated first Bishop of York in 625, baptized King Edwin of Northumbria in 627 and many of his nobles. Withdrew to Rochester after Edwin's defeat in 633. Pre-Congregation.
